A Crime: Plagiarism

Hello peeps,

How are you guys doing? I hope everything's going well for you 😊

First of all, I apologize for the late blog entry for this week.

Anywho,

Let start talking about the main topic, or should I say the hottest topic for this week.

P.L.A.G.I.A.R.I.S.M

For a definition, it's intellectual property theft. Or just simply means robbing people's ideas or any creative expression. I think it is something similar to the word "Creative Heist".

What's wrong with it?

If you're asking this, it means you're not a true artist or creator. The definition is literally about stealing one's idea/creative work. Of course, it's wrong! 😡 Creative peoples struggle as hard as other people too. And it's not easy to create something new or innovative. They need to do tons of research, brainstorming and practice to get a perfect idea/ to create the perfect masterpiece!

And, people who plagiarized has the audacity to just steal it, like, it's a no-brainer?

What the actual...

So if you're still thinking, is it really bad?

Honestly, I think it's not all bad. I mean, the good thing was probably your idea/creative work was soo damn good that people had to steal it. Like you're so freakin' awesome, bro, that someone just wanna be your copy. #Legend. But that's the only good thing about it.

And there's a lot of worse consequence of plagiarizing one's idea.

People who plagiarized:

Limit your creativity:

I believe people who plagiarise are actually very creative people who are too lazy to do all the thinking to create their own original work.

Cheating is their superpower:

They are really good at cheating, especially when they want to achieve a specific goal. (Despite using dirty tricks) So Unfair!

Otak Udang checked: Plain stupid.

People who've been plagiarized:

They are hurt (dead inside) 😔

They'll lose interest (feeling burnout/ unappreciated)

They'll feel scared to share their artworks with public

So why are we talking about this now?

Well, lately, there's been a lot of plagiarism issues happening on my Twitter timeline. Regarding NFT art that's happening on Pentas.io.

Undoubtedly, Pentas's marketplace is a great place to show your work and is also seen as a quick way to earn such bucks, but that doesn't mean you could be lazy and just plagiarized other people's ideas/creative work.

Plagiarism is never the answer!

To be honest, I've acknowledged quite a few people on Pentas.io who plagiarized from the internet. 🤮 (Why..) Don't they feel like being original is dope? Also, personally speaking, I think fan art is not an original work. But I do appreciate cool fan art!

Note: Plagiarism also includes copying artwork and words.

How to stop it?

You can't. It's an individual matter. Everyone should learn proper ethics on this topic and avoid it. I think this is an important issue and should have or develop a campaign about it—# StopPlagiarizing.

We all know the law exists, but Malaysians are not that good at following the law, especially for the creative side. Their idle attitude remains. Frankly, it is already a stigma to see people who turn creatives/arts into a job as a failure in Malaysia. (Makcik surely will think you don't have enough money to live)

And when I said "Stigma".. It also means that it will be hard to remove the labelled from the community.

Sad.

But, it is what it is.

Last but not least..

Is it something?

How easy stealing one's ideas or creation.

Like it was nothing?

Creators, too, are living things.

They also put in effort creating, drawing, animating..

In my opinion, I think plagiarism is an unforgivable act.

It's so hard to create something that we're proud of.

Stop stealing it from people, especially ideas from small not so well known creators.

They are also going through all the blood, sweat, and tears to create the original something.

Now,

For creators doing wonder,

I just wanna say,

You're breathtaking! *Keanu Reeves style*

Stop worrying. You will do just fine!

Keep going, and I think sharing your artwork process with the public might help manage this Plagiarism.

To people who plagiarized,

Buzz off.

The truth is you don't really use your brain.

Anyways, do believe in yourself and stop being a clone of others.

You're a unique being.

Keep practicing and find your own style.

and I guess.

You'll be fine too.

Hopefully, our community will learn to educate and help eradicate this issue in the future. Let's pray for the best.

That's all from me now.

Take care and thank you for reading!
