Holla peeps!
Do you guys know? Folklore refers to the beliefs and traditional stories of society. The stories are usually based on the culture of the community.
Confession time: As a child, I am fond of Malay folk tales. Truth be told, I collect a lot of Malaysian folktales books at home. Why? Well, it's obviously because of their juicy, cheeky, adventurous storyline! But the most important thing that I love is the moral of the story that they teach us.
This week, I think it's not a secret anymore, you guys know the NFT creator! 😏
*Drumrolls!*
*Spotlight*

Excited?! Heck yes I am 󠅓󠅓💖
Well guys! Let's dive in to their NFT story!
As usual, let us get to the first questions!
Tell us, what's the original story behind Folk Law NFT.
Folk Law is a movement that focuses on folklore. We started in 2015 with our first folklore monster exhibition, which was Rantai Art 15. We were known as WateKrungKreng at the time. Years have passed, so we decided that we needed more experience on how to chant folklore values through creative platforms. Through folklore, we learn that creativity is not only embodied through design or artwork, but it is present in us no matter what job we have. We went on to learn the process of creativity through different avenues to better understand this.
Inspired by the One Piece anime, our team split up and went for training (lol) in different industries. We wanted to better understand how we can communicate and create a better experience of folklore that can benefit our daily lives.
Frankly, it has been a bumpy road for us since then, but it has taught us something throughout our journey. In everything we do, there are always lessons for us to learn. As folklore has taught us, in every story, there is a TAULADAN(Lessons); Life lessons, whether good or bad.
Overall, FolkLaw aims to create a community that can voice folklore that chants cultural values. Honestly, we are still learning and growing. Do stay tuned for more updates from us!
For FolkLaw's first movement, we wanted to explore our Nucleus theory that consists of three main pillars:
1. Communication
2. Behavior
3. Environment
Thus, it's what makes us take a leap of faith on pentas.io to explore our milestones through NFT.
2015?! Guys why'd you sleep on them for so long! Aaahh, I'm so glad FolkLaw today got the spotlight they deserve! Keep going guys! We all love the idea of it!
Alright, let us now meet FolkLaw's super star!
Sang Kancil & Boya!

For our NFT project, we decided to explore the wonders of SANG KANCIL. It all started when we read a paper by Atikah Mohd Noor, Sharil Nizam Sha’ri and Rohaidah Kamaruddin.
The study focuses on the noble values in the story of Sang Kancil as a shaper of moral values among children or the younger generations. Recognizing this fact, the researchers conducted a study on the applications of noble values and teachings found in Sang Kancil by using the Theory of Goodness by Al-Ghazali. The study concluded that Sang Kancil is rich with pure values and lessons suitable for helping them embody good values in the community from an early age.
Absolutely! I solely agreed with the moral values that folklores had teach us.
Sang Kancil is a folklore character who uses his intelligence to solve problems. Sang Kancil creates creative solutions for each obstacle to be overcome. We see the term Sang Kancil as a creative person who can see things differently in life. No matter what they do, their creative side will always create an innovative solution!
In addition, we also want to bring out the Sang Kancil in everyone who owns our NFT. Whenever we faced any obstacle, we need to be reminded that we have the Sang Kancil spirit within us to solve it with creative solutions.
And since we are all creatives, problem solvers, storytellers, innovators ... We are the Great Sang Kancil. In FolkLaw, we believe that everyone has the Sang Kancil in them. We just have to look for it in ourselves.
TBT, this reminds me of the Kancil Awards so much! I am obsessed with this!
Folk Law NFT, source of inspiration, mood board?
Here are some source of inspiration for FolkLaw NFT artwork.
What's the most memorable story for Folk Law NFT?
We must say that when our own Malaysian artist/illustrator @whoiszid_NFT bought our LORDSIONG #033 (a tribute to the famous folklore, Raja Bersiong). Afterward, we chatted a bit with him about how we can introduce our Nusantara folklore to the public and how to express it through artwork.

Sang Kancil & Boya | LORDSIONG #033 |
It was a very emotional moment for us. Our team cried and was very proud of that, knowing that there were people out there who appreciates and showed interest in FolkLaw and even understood the kind of vision we had with Sang Kancil & Boya.
We strongly believe that if we can portray the true value of Nusantara folklore in the right way, with the right channels. You guessed it! Heck! Netflix might want to consider a series of our Nusantara folklore!
Oh, oh! Yes! Yes! Our artwork is all sold out except for our own genesis PRIMAGUSTI #034. The floor price for this work is the highest we have ever put, we deliberately set a higher price, not to make a quick profit, but we want to show the community that this is not just art; it reflects our love, time and passion in creating works of art solely based on art, culture, history, and of course folklore.
I'm really happy for you guys! You guys really deserved it! Wishing you guys the best for every step in your journey in spreading the Nusantara folklore!
The work in progress for FolkLaw NFT !
The process took about 1-2 days to be done per character.
1. I will start with sketch and ideation; thumbnail sketch helps a lot.
2. I sculpted on ZBrush, and from there, I will develop and refine the design.
3. For texture, I use substance painter. Finally, after rendering, I will retouch and finalize on adobe Photoshop. That's all.
1-2 day per character!? Damn, no wonder the details are immaculate! Noice one FolkLaw!
What is Folk Law big why to start creating NFT and your future hope?
Over the past few years, humans are slowly adapting to the new world of cutting-edge technology, and telling folklore from the past has changed drastically. As a group of people who love art, culture, and folklore, FolkLaw wants to be a tool to implement values and strengthen morality as the root that provides the way of human life in the future.
Our NFT artwork is just the beginning. In the future, FolkLaw wants to represent people from a variety of arts, culture, and technology categories exploring how storytelling evolves in the digital age. By combining folklore and digital art, we create, share and illustrate the core of stories to the younger generation, so the cycle of storytelling never stops.
Indeed, love the explanation on this. I also believe that Nusantara folklore is essential especially for us Southeast asian people. Never forget our own roots. Can you share the NFT artists you admire?
Zid, Arif Rafhan, and Cypherlization! We admire them for real. These guys are the real deal (well, to us, of course).
Their work shows the authenticity of them, that amount of time just to create something so pure and genuine, you can't simply imitate something like that!
